Redneck Housing Relief: Showing the Real Meaning of People Powered Change
Some disasters are man-made, some are caused by nature. The resulting damage may be caused by flood waters, voracious fires or ignorant, short-sighted, and vindictive policies, but regardless of their origins disasters leave profound damage and trauma in their wake. It's at these times one hopes for government institutions to come rushing to the rescue. Unfortunately, even at the best of times this is a tenuous hope as we’ve seen historically that aid is often too slow to come and not fit to the scale of people’s needs, especially to help those who have lost everything.
With recent Administration attacks on FEMA and other resiliency measures the situation is likely to get worse, not better.Thankfully, it is not just those in government that are ready and willing to help. When larger institutions fail, it is the everyday Heroes who care for one another, who reach out spending their time, energy, and resources to help one another. There is no better example such individuals rising to the call of desperate people in need than Nathan and Kristin of Redneck Housing Relief. Hear their amazing story of how upon seeing the devastation brought to survivors of hurricane Helene, dropped everything and drove from Arizona to help local survivors in North Carolina. They have given endlessly of their own money, time, and love to help those in need long, after the cameras have moved. You can see the absolutely astounding devastation that's left over in the wake of the hurricane, see the people trying to reclaim their lives, and the heroic efforts of Nathan and Kristin to help people rebuild and create a sense of community.
It's people like Nathan and Kristin who demonstrate the profound power of mutual Aid and radical empathy in caring for one another and showing the best that humanity and faith have to offer.
Take a look at the videos below, and make sure that you donate at their website. (Beware, though, that your heart may break.)
If our government had the same attitude of service and of care as Redneck Housing Relief there would be no need for #DSOT, but until then we're going to have to organize together in growing solidarity each week. We hope that you enjoy this Zoomchat.
