Please Be Kind and Don't Kill People

WWJD

Everyone has some level of faith.  In religion or philosophy or science.  It can be just holding the belief that you can get out of bed/ leave your home and safely drive somewhere.

Even when faced with contradictory evidence, most people try to gather hope and press on.  Yes, I will send my child to school and know, wish, imagine,  they will not be shot.

I can drive my car and not have a bridge- weak from neglect- fall on my vehicle.

I will drink this water, counting on the fact that it doesn't contain too much poison.   Or it is just from the tap and some large corporation is draining our reservoirs, charging money while housing it in plastic.

We consume food pretending that chemicals have not been used in any step of the agricultural process. No one can escape from forever chemicals. Gated communities and body guards can't help.

Religion does have important benefits.  It can help people to try to understand inexplicable tragedy and provide the internal strength to continue. Faith provides the vision that there is more than just our lives.  And it offers the tools to allow personal growth in understanding and respecting others.

Nowhere in the Bible does it say put razor wire in the Rio Grande River that will certainly main or kill many people.

Question- if we must protect all fetuses as set forth by elected officials in certain states, often to the detriment of them or the mother, why can Governor Abbott premediately

plan to kill immigrants, many of whom are children or pregnant women?  This is not taken on faith, it is actually happening and a fact.

Abbott has said he will not direct people to shoot those seeking asylum.  Not out of mercy but knowing he will be charged with murder.

23 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “Truly I tell you, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”

Jesus never said blessed are the hedge fund managers or corporate donors.

Okay, then why is wealth worshipped in this country?  Why do people who profess to follow Christian- and other teachings- only serve the richest among us?

There are people of faith who live to honor all regardless of money or status.  One can believe in any religion and still support science and history and the wonderful and diverse  people on the planet.

Understand the struggles of others and try to help.

There are so many leaders and laic who use their faith to live kinder, better, more hope-filled lives.

The Quakers are fighting Vanguard, knowing that divestiture from fossil fuels is vital to this planet.

It would take a month of Tuesdays to list all people employing their faith to help others and create a better and kinder society.

Here are just a few:

William Barber ll has used his religion and leadership to fight for everyone.

Moral Mondays

The Poor People's Campaign

And now in higher education.

The Poor People's Campaign has scheduled several marches in Annapolis, MD. Washington DC and throughout the country

on March 2.

#DSOT has faith that you and others can unite with people to make certain all voices are being heard.  To demonstrate that

we all are worthy of respect and elected officials need to listen to us, not just the folks being denied entry into the temple.

#DSOT is a vibrant and growing economic protest movement that is gaining allies- large and small- every week.

Hand in hand- symbolically- we can demand fundamental change.  There is not a scintilla of doubt that together

we can create a more equitable, safer, kinder country.

There will be more information about the March marches.  Stay tuned.

And Don't Shop on Tuesday.
