Dedicated Intelligent Ethical   Isn't that what it means?

C'mon people: this is the oldest trick in the book.  Please don't fall for it. People in power who are greedy, corrupt and incompetent, look for ways to deflect blame, find collateral damage and divert attention. So, they hone in on marginalized, powerless or misunderstood people and blame them.  For everything. Literally, everything. And fan the flames with lies and hate. DEI actually stands for diversity, equity and inclusion.  Due to this country's history, some groups have been systemically or legislatively excluded.  From neighborhoods,  jobs, certain schools and opportunities.

DEI recognizes the talent that exists throughout people and seeks to expand levels of expertise. Frankly, we should have a national jobs fair since every major problem facing America and the planet today is being ignored or deemed unsolvable. 

 Climate collapse, longer periods of dry weather and strong winds are causing the massive wildfires in California.  Not that the fire chief is a lesbian.  Really, all the brittle tinder just waiting to explode into flames can't hold a bias toward race, gender or sexual preference. Dealing with the wildfires and once in a century storms happening several times a year, however, is hard and expensive. It is much easier to keep taking money from industries hurting the planet and not doing any actual work. And then just chirp:  DEI.

George W. Bush, who even Republicans now acknowledge left a pathetic legacy, limped out of office having failed in every metric of a chief executive.  But during his presidency he used same sex marriage to deflect throughout the disastrous 8 years.  Even his people had trouble crafting any type of legacy at the end. 

Btw, two points.  First of all, same sex marriage is in trouble now. After being upheld by the Supreme Court in 2015, the earth didn't explode into flames.  OK, bad example.  But life went on.  Nothing changed except a large group of people could enjoy the benefits of marriage.  Secondly, people of the same sex wanting to come together in love and partnership are not threatening your hetero marriage.  It is the thrice married, cheating spouse who seeks out wives of friends or porn stars when their wife is recovering from childbirth who is the real threat. 

To cite a random example. No group of people, by any demographic or definition is totally good or completely bad. Human failings as well as strengths exist in everyone. Will some DEI hires fall short?  Possibly.  Is there a group of people who get everything right? If so, call them because we have some major problems facing our country and our democracy. Tragically, there was a fatal crash last week at Reagan International Airport.  The president, knowing absolutely nothing about any aspect of the horrific situation, blamed DEI.  Meanwhile he had already eliminated an aviation safety advisory commission before that crash but long after planes kept falling from the skies and Boeing swapped safety for profit. Who says that doors have to be secure on every flight?  Feel that lovely breeze at 40,000 feet in the air. 

Yes, homogeneity can seem easier, but a bunch of rich, heartless, greedy folks only concerned about themselves is not the answer.

Here at #DSOT, we admire and applaud diversity.  We cherish our allies from everywhere who fight for an array of issues that most of us want and need. A super majority consensus that transcends all points of separation. No one is perfect.  But large swaths of people cannot be demonized, deported, fired or scapegoated. We are only as good as our beliefs and actions. Keep a sense of humor.  Why not?  Show kindness every day.  As Bernie Sanders urged: Do something for someone you don't know.  Be generous.  Keep learning.  Never stop trying. Nurture hope.
